Kyle Shanahan says game vs. Redskins isn’t personal

Earlier this week, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan made some headlines due to his comments about the Washington Redskins.

Not surprising, as Shanahan was alongside guys like Sean McVay and Matt LaFleur who have moved on to greener pastures.

But Shanahan says despite all the noise, he isn’t taking the game personally.

“I think it’s pretty easy not to make [Sunday’s game] personal,” Shanahan said, according to Les Carpenter of the Washington Post. “The guys who get personal with it don’t play in the game.”

But Shanahan also had this to say when asked about the prospects of offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell in Washington as a rising name: “I’m probably not the person [the aspiring coach] would want to call on that advice.”

It’s clear Shanahan refrains from going too hard against the Redskins and lets the obvious seep out via what the public already knows.

But he’s also right about taking the game personally — those who do that might be prone to mistakes in the heat of the moment. Clearly, Shanahan isn’t one to make those mistakes given his team’s undefeated record so far.
