Kyle Shanahan admitted the 49ers started prepping for the Packers during the Cowboys’ embarrassing blowout

San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t sound too worried about his early Green Bay Packers prep going in vain during that team’s NFC wild-card win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

The two-seed Cowboys suffered a brutal defeat to the seven-seed Packers, setting up Dallas in a waiting game to hear the fate of coach Mike McCarthy.

Shanahan added insult to injury during his Tuesday media availability ahead of his team’s NFC divisional game, saying that his staff started prepping for the Packers as early as the second quarter amid an early blowout.

While Shanahan added a Dallas score in the second quarter made them reconsider just prepping for just one team, the second half solidified for San Francisco that it was the right call.

Given the history between the Cowboys and the 49ers, this will only add more fuel to the fire for one of the NFL’s oldest rivalries.

While Shanahan was likely just being practical in the moment for a lopsided football game, his words do cast a little shade on Jerry World after such an embarassing playoff exit.

Perhaps the Cowboys will go get one of Shanahan’s old tormentors, former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, to settle the score in a future matchup.
