Kyle Schwarber, Javier Baez, Ben Zobrist hit homers as Yu Darvish excels in Cubs' 6-1 win over Reds

CINCINNATI _ No cramps, no problems for Yu Darvish.

Darvish showed no signs of the right leg cramps that curtailed his Tuesday start to four innings as he pitched six innings of two-hit ball Sunday in leading the Cubs to a 6-1 win over the Reds at Great American Ball Park.

Darvish continued to trust his fastball, clocked as high as 97 mph, as he struck out seven and didn't allow a hit after Scott Schebler hit a single to shallow left field with two out in the first.

After his 39-pitch first, Darvish pitched more effectively and efficiently in his 94-pitch outing under temperatures in the mid-80s.

Meanwhile, manager Joe Maddon gave Kris Bryant a rest, and Kyle Schwarber and Javier Baez picked up the slack.

Schwarber and Baez hit back-to-back home runs in the second, but Schwarber was ejected by home plate umpire John Tumpane following a disagreement over a called third strike to end the seventh.

Schwarber spiked his helmet after the ejection and had to be restrained by Baez.

Ian Happ, making his second career start at third base in place of Bryant, drew a leadoff walk, and Schwarber followed with his first home run since April 26 against the Brewers.

Baez, who received a brief chat from Maddon after visibly showing frustration in Saturday's 5-4 loss following a 2-for-22 slump and verbal spat with Reds reliever Amir Garrett, ripped a homer that landed in the upper deck in left field.

Ben Zobrist opened the fifth with a homer that landed on the protective netting above the Reds' bullpen in right field.

Pedro Strop, Carl Edwards Jr. and Brandon Morrow combined for three scoreless innings.

The Cubs have a day off Monday before opening a two-game series Tuesday night against the Indians at Wrigley Field.
