Kyle Schwarber catching among Cubs' unfinished spring business

MESA, Ariz. _ With the Chicago Cubs in the process of pairing down their spring training roster by the end of next week, they still have some other unfinished business.

That would be finding a place for Kyle Schwarber to catch in a game. Schwarber, who underwent surgery 11 months ago to repair two torn ligaments in his left knee, will start in left field but needs work as an emergency third catcher.

"We're still working on that," Maddon said Friday. "It can even be in a minor league game. It doesn't have to be here. We're trying to pick the right time to get that done."

Schwarber has played exclusively in left field this spring without any lingering effects of the surgery, although he does wear a brace on the knee.
