Kyle Sandilands has lashed out live on-air, after his discussion of the ongoing Beauty and the Geek murder investigation was heavily censored by the director of The Kyle & Jackie O Show.
Sandilands went on the rant during a recent broadcast of the radio show, the day after a segment in which he spoke about Tamika Chesser, the former reality star charged with the murder of a man in South Australia last month.
According to news.com.au, Sandilands’ discussion of the case was heavily censored, with The Kyle & Jackie O Show momentarily taken off the air as the shock jock spoke about the details of the horrific case.
Frustrated by the censoring in a broadcast the day after, Sandilands let loose on the show’s director, Bruno Bouchet, as well as the “dumb and stupid” laws about reporting on crimes in the media.
“The show got dumped in the middle of a planned discussion that I had already discussed with the legal team,” Sandilands claimed, before asking why the segment was scrapped “when I was using all the correct lingo”.
“Some laws are just so dumb and stupid, and I’m not playing ball,” he added.
Sandilands then launched into a tirade about how he should be free to “do what I want to do”, and even threatened to quit if such censoring keeps happening on the show.
“Until this show runs the way I intend it to be run, I will not be back on the air at all, in any way, shape or form.
“I’m not going to waste my life here walking on eggshells around other people’s ideas of what I should be doing.
“I do what I want to do and if you don’t like it, tough shit.”
Later, Sandilands’ manager interrupted the rant to inform him that the censoring was in his best interest, given the sensitivity of the investigation and its details briefly being under a court suppression order which protected Chesser’s identity.
“For the contempt of court stuff,” his manager said of the decision to scrap the segment.
“I just don’t want you guys going to jail.”
In reply, Sandilands said he would “rather be raped in jail than be puppeteered by losers”, and told the Australian Communications and Media Authority — the agency behind radio regulations — to “shove it in their ass”.
“And so can the management of the radio station,” he added.
While Sandilands then proceeded to walk out while on-air, he did reappear on the show earlier today, proving that the promise of Sandilands-free airwaves is just too good to be true. Just ask Melbournites.
It comes after Chesser’s identity was revealed to the public last week, following her arrest earlier in the month at an apartment in Port Lincoln.
