After rumors surface that a potential trade could be brewing for the purple and gold, the Minnesota Vikings have decided to hang on to longtime veteran tight end Kyle Rudolph. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, both parties came to an agreement on a contract extension for four years worth $36 million, which locks him up with the Vikings through 2023.
This was a storyline Jacksonville Jaguars fans were watching after the draft as many felt they didn’t address the tight end position good enough this offseason. However, at least in the organized team activity phase, the team got very encouraging signs out of rookie tight end Josh Oliver and free-agent addition Geoff Swaim.
As for Rudolph, many began to speculate things when the Vikings selected Alabama tight end Irv Smith Jr. in the second-round of April’s draft, however, as good front offices do, they worked out a way to keep both players. Now, quarterback Kirk Cousins will have that many more weapons in his arsenal to make a Super Bowl run in 2019.
Rudolph will enter this season with 386 career catches for 3,787 yards and 41 touchdowns.
