Kyle Rudolph is happy to be out of the headlines moving forward

For the last month or so, Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph has been the headlines.

Will he take a pay cut? The team just drafted Irv Smith Jr., that means the Vikings will trade Rudolph, right? Contract talks aren’t going well . . .

Those storylines are all dead after Rudolph signed a four-year, $32 million contract extension earlier this week.

Rudolph sounds pretty happy that the attention will be off of him, for at least a little bit.

“I think the biggest thing I’m relieved of is that I won’t be all of your guys’ headlines for the rest of the summer,” Rudolph said Wednesday. “I’m not used to being that guy in the headlines, so I apologize, now you’ll have to have something else to write about for the rest of the summer. I’m certainly excited that this is behind us and now I can just focus on football.”

Earlier this week, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said that throughout the process, he never thought Rudolph wouldn’t be a Viking. Turns out he was right.
