Kyle Rudolph confirms Vikings have offered him 5-year extension

The Kyle Rudolph saga continues.

Rudolph is in the last year of his contract and is set to get paid $7.6 million in 2019. The Vikings, of course, would like to not pay Rudolph that much. That would be fifth among tight ends in the league, and Rudolph is not one of the best five tight ends in the league.

It appears as if talks behind the scenes are happening. On Wednesday, Rudolph confirmed that the Vikings have offered him a five-year contract extension. More than likely, this would lower his cap hit for 2019.

That would likely make Rudolph, 29, a Viking for life.

Via Chris Tomasson, Rudolph said, “We’re in a tough situation. Everybody knows that.”

For a player nearing 30, it would make some sense to take the financial safety net of a five-year deal, although, we don’t really know what the contract looks like.

Rudolph is coming off a 2018 season in which he caught 64 passes for 634 yards and four touchdowns. The Vikings drafted tight end Irv Smith Jr. in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
