Kyler Murray not limiting himself as a rookie

The Arizona Cardinals believe rookie quarterback Kyler Murray could be a special player. He might be, but rookies don’t often set the league on fire as rookies, especially at quarterback.

Nonetheless, Murray doesn’t want to put a cap on what he thinks he can accomplish, even in his first season.

“For me, there are no limitations,” he said after practice this week during organized team activities. “I would never do that to myself. I’m coming in as if it was my senior year at OU. Obviously, I know the circumstances are little different. (I’m) new to the league but at the same time, treating it all the same, trying to get up to speed as if I was a freshman and looking to succeed on the field. Obviously, there may be some ups and downs, but every time I touch the field, I want to win.”

He is trying to learn like a freshman but perform like a senior, trying to build on what he accomplished last season at Oklahoma when he won the Heisman Trophy and led the Sooners to the semifinal game in the college football playoff.

He knows defenses are better in the NFL but still expects to be great.

“Windows are tighter, but to be great you’ve got to make that work.”

Much of the Cardinals’ success, even in 2019, will depend on the type of player Murray becomes.
