Kyle McAllister targets second Celtic win in less than two weeks and talks up St Mirren's top six chances

Playmaker Kyle McAllister fully believes his on-form Buddies can upset the odds against Celtic for the second time in less than a fortnight.

St Mirren host the Hoops in Paisley on Wednesday evening, hoping to pick up another win against Neil Lennon’s side following their impressive recent 2-1 victory at Celtic Park.

McAllister put in a match-winning performance against Kilmarnock on Saturday that included producing a rare header for the Saints’ opening goal.

He was also in the side that tasted victory in Glasgow, and the 22-year-old insists there’s no reason lightning can’t strike twice for St Mirren when Celtic visit the SMISA Stadium.

“We are playing really well right now,” McAllister told Express Sport.

“It was good to get a goal against Killie and it was great to get the win. It’s been a while since I was last on the scoresheet and I think it’s the first time I’ve ever scored a header.

“I think my last headed goal came when I was a youth player. It’s not often the ball lands on my head!

“I think, as a team, we are all happy and it’s probably the best it’s been in a long time. We are clicking and hopefully we can keep getting wins.

“We’ve got Celtic again on Wednesday and we obviously did a great job at Parkhead recently. Why can’t we do that again at home? Hopefully, we can get three more points.

“If we play like we did at Parkhead we can get a result.

“We switched up the formation for that game and we matched them up.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen but I’m sure we will go and match up against them again and hopefully it works out the same way.

“If we work hard then, hopefully, we will score goals.”

McAllister is determined to help his side fulfill their ambition of finishing in the top half this season and help them make a little more history.

The Saints haven’t finished in the top six since the SPL was formed in 1998, and McAllister revealed he doesn’t mind the constant squad rotation as long as his teammates are picking up results.

He said: “I’m sure there are a lot of people who say they want to be top six, but from the start of the season he (Goodwin) has been on top of us about it.

“We had a meeting and it was about finishing top six.

“We are doing very well and that’s what we want to do. The club has never done it before.

“We want to be the players wearing the shirt who finished top six first at this club.

“We’ve got a lot of games coming up. We have eight in February and you can’t play in every single game.

“We’ve got a lot of attacking players and I’m happy to be switched in and out when there are a lot of games, because you don’t want injuries to happen.

“It doesn’t bother me one bit - as long as we are winning.”
