Kyle Long, Bears agree to restructure contract

The Chicago Bears and veteran guard Kyle Long have agreed to a restructured contract, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The deal is expected to keep Long in Chicago for the next several seasons.

Prior to restructuring, Long’s deal with the Bears ran through 2021 with cap hits ranging between $8.5 million and $9.6 million. His new deal is likely to give Chicago some more salary cap flexibility heading into free agency.

Long quietly announced the news on Twitter when he said he was a Bear for life.

Long, 30, appeared in eight games last season and has battled injuries since 2016. Still, his value as a veteran leader and above-average starter can’t be discounted.

We’ll see if Pace uses the extra cap space to re-sign Adrian Amos or Bryce Callahan before the bell goes off in free agency.
