Kyle Lafferty to Hamilton Academical? Accies boss offers realistic view on club's hopes

Hamilton boss Brian Rice has offered a 'realistic view' on the club signing Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty this transfer window.

The Accies are in the middle of a relegation battle in the Scottish Premiership.

Rice believes former Rangers and Hearts striker Lafferty could add the firepower to boost his side's chances of survival.

Lafferty was recently released by Italian Serie B club Reggina and now Accies fans are calling on the club to sign the 33-year-old, who lives in East Kilbride.

Rice told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "I would love to have a player of his stature here at this football club, but, realistically, could we afford that? I don't know.

"Would Kyle Lafferty improve Hamilton Accies? 100 per cent he would, there's absolutely no doubt about that.

"We haven't tried to do anything on it.

"There's certain things that are realistic that you think you could maybe do, but it's not something we've spoken about.

"It's certainly something I'll bring up with the chairman during our next meeting.

"We know how tight finances are, but it might be something that interests the club."

Lafferty has been linked with a number of clubs since his release from Reggina, including former club Hearts and their fierce rivals Hibernian.

Irish League pair Larne and Linfield have also been tentatively mentioned as potential destinations for the striker.
