Kyle Lafferty sent off as former Rangers star suffers miserable Sarpsborg debut

Kyle Lafferty was sent off on his Sarpsborg debut as his miserable year in football continued.

The former Rangers striker struggled during his second spell at Ibrox and was released earlier this summer.

He then rocked up in Norway with relegation battlers Sarpsborg and it looked like he would enjoy a successful debut.

Lafferty was handed a start and his side cruised into a 2-0 lead against Viking thanks to goals from Magnar Odegaard and Mustafa Abdellaoue.

The 31-year-old had been booked in the first minute and his debut then ended in disaster as he was shown a second yellow for a foul in the 68th minute.

As Lafferty sat in the home dressing room then at least he could console himself with the fact his side were comfortable and should hold on.

But it went from bad to worse as late goals from Tommy Hoiland and Even Ostensen scored to make it 2-2 and leave Sarpsborg level on points with Stromsgodset at the bottom of the table.

Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila is currently in charge of Valerenga, who sit seventh in the table.
