Scottish Premiership clubs have been put on alert after Sunderland announced the departure of striker Kyle Lafferty.
The striker was subject to interest from former club Hearts and St Mirren before committing to the Mackems in January.
A deal was only agreed until the end of the season and with COVID-19 putting paid to the League One calender, the striker has departed.
A club statement read: "Sunderland AFC can confirm that Kyle Lafferty has left the club.
"After signing a short-term deal at the Stadium of Light in January, the 32-year-old striker went on to score two goals in 11 appearances for the Lads.
"Everyone at SAFC would like to wish Kyle the best of luck for the future."
The club, made famous in recent years for their struggles being captured on Netflix documentary Sunderland Til I Die finished 8th, their lowest placing ever.
