Kyle Lafferty earns Kilmarnock 'difference maker' verdict as Tommy Wright finds hope after Aberdeen setback

Frustrated Tommy Wright felt Kilmarnock deserved a point but reckons they shot themselves in the foot at Pittodrie.

The Killie boss was frustrated with the soft free kick that was given and then allowed Callum Hendry “the freedom of the penalty box” to net Aberdeen’s winner.

It is eight defeats in a row for the Rugby Park side but Wright feels the performances are getting better but bad decisions are costing his team.

Wright said:“I thought we did enough to get a point, probably not enough to win all three.

“It was the same old story, we shot ourselves in the foot - it was a soft free kick.

“We didn’t deal with it though, we had the information on who was picking Hendry up and they didn't do it.

“He just didn’t get picked up when he should, someone was assigned to take him but they didn’t."

The Killie boss acknowledged his team needed to show more in the final third but reckons Kyle Lafferty showed he could be the solution.

Wright added: “They responded, we had a good chance with Nicke (Kabamba) but didn’t take it.

“We gave everything to get back in the game but ultimately a severe lack of quality in putting the ball into the box for the strikers let us down.

“It’s decision making, it’s nothing to do with confidence.

“If we were lacking confidence we wouldn’t be able to respond the way we did in the second half. So it’s not that, it’s about making the right decisions.

“Lafferty is a big plus, you can see if we can keep him fit he’ll be a real handful.

“He will make a difference for us up front.”

Wright was pleased to get experienced defender Kirk Broadfoot back.

Wright stated: “Kirk Broadfoot coming back will make a difference too, he’s a good talker.

“I can’t say anyone played poorly for us, but we can do better in certain situations.

“I can’t go round saying they played badly, there were good performances but in certain situations we let ourselves down.

“Ultimately, we have to turn performances into points.”

He revealed Clevid Dikamona had come off with a hamstring issue.
