Kyle Kuzma (stress reaction) can practice but not with full-contact

The Los Angeles Lakers should expect to be without Kyle Kuzma for at least a little while longer. Although Kuzma is healing and getting closer to a return for the Lakers, his clearance for practice is only a partial one.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel told reporters in L.A. prior to Monday’s preseason game against the Golden State Warriors that Kuzma has been “cleared” to practice but of the “non-contact” variety. Obviously, that doesn’t seem like a good indication that Kuzma will be ready to play in eight days when the Lakers open the season against the Los Angeles Clippers on Oct. 22.

So, while that is a sign of progress we it’s a baby step in Kuzma’s return to the floor. The Lakers did dodge a bullet with the MRI on Monday coming back clean for their superstar acquisition Anthony Davis after Davis suffered a thumb injury during the team’s game in China on Saturday.

Davis and LeBron James will be held out to rest in Monday night’s game.
