CHICAGO — Right fielder Kyle Isbel delivered in a clutch spot in his first start of the season for the Kansas City Royals.
Isbel’s two-out, two-run single in the 10th inning provided breathing room for the bullpen and helped secure a 5-2 win over the Chicago White Sox in the finale of the three-game series on Thursday afternoon in front of an announced 11,242 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The win clinched the series for the Royals (7-10), who finished their road trip 2-4.
The game marked the second extra-inning game of the trip for the Royals, who lost in 12 innings to Seattle on Sunday.
Isbel’s two-run single came during the same at-bat as a passed ball that allowed the Royals to take the lead.
Royals left fielder Andrew Benintendi drove in the club’s first two runs on a first-inning RBI double and a fifth-inning sacrifice fly.
Royals starting pitcher Brad Keller allowed just one run and three hits in seven innings. He struck out three and didn’t walk a batter. The lone run he allowed came on a sixth-inning home run by Leury Garcia.
