Kyle Cameron reveals dressing room message he will deliver ahead of Yeovil fixture

Kyle Cameron has revealed he will tell his Notts County teammates to 'take the emotion' out of their fixture against Yeovil prior to stepping out in front of 16,000 fans inside Meadow Lane.

The Magpies' National League encounter with Mark Cooper's side is set to smash the attendance record in English football's fifth tier, having set the current record just last year in their 2-0 win over Solihull Moors.

The atmosphere will be nothing new to this current crop of Notts players, having seen almost 11,000 in attendance for their encounter with Wrexham last month, with 14,041 watching their pre-season friendly with neighbours Nottingham Forest earlier this year.

Speaking ahead of the record-breaking fixture, Cameron revealed the message he will give to his players in the dressing room before kick-off, insisting his side need to do what they do best to remain top of the league.

"I think the biggest message that I could pass onto the boys tomorrow will be to take the emotion out of the game, it is just another game, it does not matter if there is five people there or 16,000 people there.

"We play in the same manner week in, week out no matter who is watching.

"During training games in the week, we train how we would play on a Tuesday or a Saturday, so for us it is just another day at work and getting our heads down and doing what we do best."

Cameron is no stranger to playing in front of big crowds during his professional career, having featured in Torquay United's play-off final defeat to Hartlepool back in 2020/21 campaign.

The 25-year-old did not feature in last campaign's 'Football for a Fiver' fixture against Solihull Moors after contracting Coronavirus, forcing him to miss the 12,483 spectacle.

But the Notts captain insisted that he has the experience to perform on the big occasions, explaining his full focus is on the fixture rather than who is watching.

"I have played in a couple of big fixtures during my career," explained Cameron.

"The play-off final was a similar number; I have also played for Scotland U21's away against North Macedonia which was in front of 25,000 inside their national stadium and that was a very hostile atmosphere.

"But I have bits and pieces of experience of playing in front of big crowds.

"For me personally, when you step out on the pitch you are in that zone and you're concentrating, and you do forget about the crowd and who's there."

Following Barnet's progression to the second round of the FA Cup earlier this week, the Magpies' fixture set to take place next Saturday has been rescheduled, giving Williams' side a timely rest before the busy Christmas fixture list ensues.

And Cameron explained that his side will treat the break as a time to continue to improve, but was keen to enjoy a few rounds of golf with no game next weekend.

"It's going to be a full week of training, if anything it is going to be a mini pre-season," said Cameron.

"We are going to be working as hard as we have been all season regardless of the fact, we have not got a game this weekend.

"It's a good opportunity to get some load into the legs and try and edge our fitness levels that little bit higher rather than taking our foot off the gas, we have to continue to push and keep on improving.

"I will obviously try and get a few rounds of golf in during the weekend if I can, but through the week it is going to be full steam ahead and we'll be working as hard as ever."
