Kyle Busch loses out in late battle with Kevin Harvick, extends winless streak

Kyle Busch is a two-time Cup Series champion and one of the winningest drivers in the field – but his 2020 season has been absolutely exhausting. Busch hasn’t won a Cup Series race since he wrapped up the 2019 title at Homestead with a victory, and after crashing early last week at New Hampshire, Busch isn’t a lock to qualify for the 2020 playoffs.

Busch was in a great position to contend for a win late in Saturday’s race at Michigan International Speedway and led with nine laps to go – but he was shuffled back into the field after losing out in a tight battle with Kevin Harvick.

Harvick had the best car in the field all day and won both stages, but a series of late cautions bunched up the field and forced Harvick to fight through multiple restarts. Harvick got a run on Busch down the backstretch and took a low line, but slid up toward Busch exiting turn four. Harvick either made very slight contact with Busch’s quarterpanel or got close enough to disturb the air and move Busch’s car – the replays weren’t conclusive – but Busch was forced up the track and lost several crucial positions.

Harvick went on to win the race, while Busch finished fifth.

Busch was understandably furious, but NASCAR fans had plenty of jokes.
