Kyle Bennett wants out of Bristol Rovers as he reveals hopes for permanent Swindon Town move

Kyle Bennett's future at Bristol Rovers looks increasingly uncertain after the winger has confirmed he wants to turn his loan spell at League Two Swindon Town into a permanent switch.

Bennett left the Mem on transfer deadline in January after growing frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities with the Gas as manager Graham Coughlan was unable to guarantee him a place in the starting XI.

Since dropping down a division, Bennett has scored three goals and created two assists in 10 league appearances for the Robins and manager Richie Wellens who admitted last week he would like to keep hold of the 28-year-old.

Bristol Live understands Bennett is under contract with Bristol Rovers until January 2020, meaning the Gas can negotiate a transfer fee having signed him from Portsmouth on a free in 2018.

Bennett told the Swindon Advertiser: "A long-term stay interests me. It’s not down to me right now, but it’s definitely something I would be keen on.

"I get on with the manager very well. I played with him and have known him for a number of years.

"It’s a matter of if we can come to an arrangement to do it.

"I know Richie as a person, and he’s not being personal to people – but it’s his job on the line.

"He’ll make decisions that he feels are right. That’s not for anyone else to comment on."

Coughlan claims he still sees Bennett as part of his plans but with a significant summer ahead for the Gas, the prospect of recouping some money for a player who has featured for just 117 minutes on his watch has to be tempting.
