- Kyiv has declared a day of mourning following a massive Russian aerial attack that killed at least 21 people, including children, and destroyed an apartment block in the Ukrainian capital.
- Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia used ballistic and cruise missiles in the attack and launched more than 1,560 drones against Ukrainian population centres since Wednesday, with Kyiv being a primary target.
- German Chancellor Friedrich Merz condemned Russia's actions, saying that Vladimir Putin is "banking on escalation rather than negotiation" and that the attacks contradict any claims of seeking an end to the war.
- In response to the "shocking" attacks, UK Defence Secretary John Healey announced an acceleration of British deliveries of air defence and counter-drone systems to Ukraine.
- Separately, a Ukrainian drone attack killed three people in the central Russian city of Ryazan, while North Korea condemned UK sanctions imposed over a summer camp allegedly involved in the deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children.
