The No. 56 once worn by Reuben Foster didn’t stay unused for long. Newly-signed linebacker Kwon Alexander posted on his Instagram story Tuesday a picture of a No. 56 jersey with his name on it.
No numbers have been issued on the team’s website, but it’s hard to believe Alexander would post a jersey he wasn’t set to wear.
Foster wore the number for his season-plus with San Francisco. Prior to that Shayne Skov wore it. The last time No. 56 wasn’t worn by a 49er was 2010, with Dillon Farrell, Nathan Stupar and Tavares Gooden all wearing it between 2011 and 2015 when Skov joined the club.
None of the other 49ers’ recent signees have announced their numbers. Third-year wide receiver Trent Taylor did change from No. 81 to No. 15.
