Tomorrow is a very big day for San Diego State University Aztecs men’s basketball.

San Diego, CA- Former Aztec basketball great Kawhi Leonard will have his #15 jersey raised into the rafters at Viejas Arena on Saturday night, in the midst of San Diego State’s greatest ever single season win streak.

Last Sunday the Aztecs won a school-record 21st-straight victory at UNLV. They won again on Wednesday against the Lobos in New Mexico.

The Aztecs are now preparing for a monumentally important home game this weekend at Viejas Arena.  Basketball superstar Kwahi Leonard, now playing for the NBA Los Angeles Clippers will be in attendance to have his SDSU jersey retired as the Aztecs face off against Utah State.

In 2011, Kwahi led the Aztecs to their first ever Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Now Leonard is one of the top athletes in the NBA.  Leonard is one of only three players EVER to be a two-time NBA Finals MVP (Spurs, Raptors), alongside LeBron James (Heat, Cavs) and Kareem Abdul Jabbar (Lakers, Bucks).

Saturday’s game will be the sixth straight sellout for the Aztecs, and word has it game tickets were extremely hard to come by.

Coach Brian Dutcher had this to say about Saturday, February 1st: “I think it’ll be one of the best environments we’ve ever had here with an undefeated team playing the unanimous pick to win the Mountain West Conference, and Kawhi Leonard jersey hanging up in the rafters.  I think it is going to be electric in the building.”

Dutcher will keep the team game-time ready amid all of the hype.

“My task is to keep it from becoming a distraction because we’re here to win basketball games,” he said.

Saturday will undoubtedly be an historic day at Viejas Arena for the Aztecs.  Congratulations to Aztec alumnus Kwahi Leonard, and the current undefeated 2019-2020 #4 Aztecs squad!
