Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah called on National Assembly members Sunday to work on strengthening the country’s security and stability and deriving lessons from developments taking place in regional countries.

During a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim and a parliamentary delegation, he underlined the importance of cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities to boost the rule of law and institutions in a manner that guarantees freedom of expression and criticism within the law.

Meanwhile, Al-Ghanim revealed that the grilling motion filed against Minister of Public Works Dr. Jenan Ramadan is scheduled for discussion during the inaugural session of parliament's forthcoming term on October 29.

Ramadan, who also serves as minister of state for housing affairs, has been notified of the grilling motion lodged against her by MP Omar Al-Tabtabie, he told reporters, adding that the process would follow proper constitutional procedures.

Under Kuwaiti parliamentary procedure, "any grilling can only be discussed at least eight days after the motion was filed," he explained, according to the Kuwait news agency (KUNA).

Al-Tabtabie accuses the minister of various "wrongdoings," chief among them "squandering public funds and obstructing national development plans." The lawmaker also blames her for "abuse of power and mismanagement," which he said cost the country, "substantial financial losses."

The grilling motion is the latest in a spate of requests by lawmakers to question ministers in parliament, including one filed by MP Mohammed Hayef against Finance Minister Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf.
