Kuso Iinkai has released a four-song mini album, expressing complicated emotions through rapid guitar rock.
The album is a kind of soundtrack to a short animated film titled "Naniiro no Nani" (What in what color), the original story for which was written by the band's vocalist-guitarist Ryuichi Miura.
"I used to shape music based on my own experiences, but this time I did it based on a story. It was the first time for me to make songs this way," Miura said.
Money to produce the short animation, which can be viewed on YouTube, was raised through crowdfunding. It's a story about a struggling painter and a woman who loves paintings: They initially support one another, but a distance gradually develops between them.
"I don't know if what I see is the same as what other people see," Miura said. "But if they're the same, it's great. There's no way to make sure, but I have to believe and do my work," he said.
In "Atesaki Fumei to Saihaitatsu" (Address unknown and redelivery) on the mini album, Miura expresses the theme of the animation by singing, "People get lost because they can't convey their feelings of gratitude and regret."
Bass guitar player Noriyuki Okada said the animation has a happy ending, in a way.
It has been four years since the group's debut. Miura said, "I sang songs to express myself, but gradually I've put more emphasis on the relation between us and the audience."
Guitar player Naoya Sasakai was confident, saying that his playing fit Miura's song.
"I was always wrestling with the [ideas], but I'm now doing things that I didn't even have in my mind. I've got a new weapon," he said.
