Kurt Zouma's weakness, Reece James' big asset and surprise stat after Chelsea draw with Sevilla

Perhaps the sense of panic was exacerbated by the defender next to him exuding such calm but the Frenchman looked like the weak link in an otherwise much improved backline.

There was an awful attempted clearance on the verge of half-time, he had another scare when he took a poor first touch when dealing with a long ball midway through the second half and was bailed out once more when pressed into another error entering the final 15 minutes.

In the air Zouma is Chelsea's best defender but opponents have earmarked something they can exploit: press him fast and he can cough up an error.

Lampard looks ahead to Chelsea's Champions League clash against Sevilla

Reece James deliveries

The highlight of a tepid game from a Chelsea point of view - aside from keeping a convcincing clean sheet - was Reece James's deliveries. The right back, chosen ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta for his attacking ability, provided a series of good balls that deserved to be finished and it is unquestionably his best asset.

Havertz needs more time

The German looked subdued again last night, unable to get his creative juices flowing against a well-organised team. An adaptation period is clearly needed but the £72million transfer fee means he will be under pressure quickly. Expectations are high and right now, at this early stage, he is not meeting them. It is worth remembering that he started last season at Bayer Leverkusen slowly too.

Captain conundrum

Cesar Azpilicueta's absence meant that Jorginho wore the captain's armband until he was substituted in the 65th minute for Mateo Kovacic. He initially looked unsure who to hand it to before making his way off but gave it to N'Golo Kante.

Now the interesting tidbit here is that Thiago Silva was captain in his first start against West Bromwich Albion last month when Kante was on the field. Lampard spoke about the Brazilian's leadership qualities from the outset but then there were questions over his ability to speak English.

A surprise statistic

This was the first scoreless draw of Lampard's reign - 63 games.

There are still questions over finding the right balance but after Saturday's defensive problems, a clean sheet against quality opposition was a big boost.
