While it’s not clear who will become the next coach of the Los Angeles Lakers after talks broke down with Ty Lue, it is clear that a former Laker is gaining significant power throughout the coaching search within the basketball operations department.
According to reports from both Yahoo’s Chris Haynes and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Kurt Rambis has been heavily involved in the coaching search. Rambis, in addition to being a Lakers legend from the Showtime days, is also married to Linda Rambis, a close advisor to Jeanie Buss.
It appears that the Rambis family’s influence has grown within the power vacuum created by Magic Johnson’s sudden departure from the team. Also, it’s definitely worth noting that Kurt Rambis has also been a close confidant of former Lakers coach Phil Jackson in the past.
And if Jackson’s involved, it likely isn’t something that’s going over well with LeBron James. LeBron believed he was making the right decision by joining the Lakers and perhaps history will eventually prove him right, but as of this writing, it looks like the walls are closing in on him with a dysfunctional franchise ruining what’s left of his legendary career.
