A political delegation from Erbil visited Baghdad to hold talks over the 2021 budget dispute. The visit comes in light of the failure of all previous rounds of talks between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government in Baghdad over oil, salaries and the general budget.
According to the leader in the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Ali al-Fili, a Kurdish political delegation arrived in Baghdad on Saturday to discuss the budget issue and settle the dispute over the KRG’s share.
He pointed out that the dispute over the region’s share is still unresolved.
The Parliament did not make announcements over the budget vote during Monday’s session, however, many political blocs said the vote will take place in case no agreement is reached with the Kurdistan region.
Head of the opposition New Generation Party Shaswar Abdulwahid, for his part, undermined the importance of the agreement between Baghdad and Erbil on the budget, including the KRG’s share.
Meanwhile, the parliamentarian for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan bloc, Othman Karim, affirmed that no agreement has been reached so far on the KRG’s share of the budget.
Kurds will attend Monday’s session, he said, but they will withdraw if lawmakers decided to vote over this issue.
