Renowned writer Kunal Basu's new novel titled 'In An Ideal World' is expected to release in early 2022, publisher Penguin Random House India announced recently.
A literary novel, 'In An Ideal World' explores a variety of themes like — family, college politics, and fanaticism. 'The story revolves around the disappearance of a member of the Liberal party of a college in Manhar, who has been missing for months. The prime suspect of this abduction is the leader of the Nationalist group of the same college. Thus begins the mission of the parents of the suspect, who find themselves caught between rumours, religions and riots, while they attempt to uncover this mysterious disappearance and absolve the son they raised and believe in. This investigation leads to surprising results,' according to a press release.
The author is best-known for his short story 'The Japanese Wife', which is also adapted into a film of the same title. Commenting on his new novel, Basu said, "I am deeply pleased that Penguin Random House will be the custodian of my new novel about a fractured land with a fractured heart."
Some of Bsu's other works include 'The Opium Clerk', 'The Miniaturist', 'Racists', 'The Yellow Emperor's Cure' and 'Sarojini's Mother' among others.
'In An Ideal World' by Kunal Basu will be published under Penguin's Viking imprint early next year.
