KTM Just Recalled Over 20,000 Dirt Bikes for a Major Crash Hazard

While we've focused on KTM at large for the better part of the last seven months, largely due to all the corporate financial issues the brand has faced, I have wonder what's going on with GasGas and Husqvarna recently. If you didn't know, KTM's parent company owns the two and they're under the KTM AG umbrella, as well as share parts across the group.

Both brands, however, might be ruing the day they inked those sales, along with agreeing to share parts, as not only is KTM issuing a recall for the brands' dirt bikes, it's issuing a recall for a whopping 20,000-plus dirt bikes across both GasGas and Husqvarna and going back three years. This is just so many dirt bikes, it's frankly stunning.

And it's for something seriously dangerous, too. How does the front brakes not working sound?

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall notice, "The front brake caliper can crack, reducing the braking system’s effectiveness, posing a crash hazard." Yeah, that doesn't sound great. The recall affects around 19,310 units in the United States, along with around 3,870 in Canada.

KTM states in the recall, "This recall involves model years 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 Off-Road Motorcycles. The GASGAS off-road motorcycles are red with the white GASGAS logo on both sides of the shrouds. The Husqvarna motorcycles are white, blue and yellow with the Husqvarna logo on both sides of the shrouds.  The 2022 model year recalled motorcycles have the letter N in the 10th position of the vehicle identification number (VIN). The 2023 model year recalled motorcycles have the letter P in the 10th position of the vehicle identification number (VIN). The 2024 model year recalled motorcycles have the letter R in the 10th position of the vehicle identification number (VIN). The 2025 model year recalled motorcycles have the letter S in the 10th position of the vehicle identification number (VIN). The VIN number is located on the right side of the steering."

Here's a full breakdown of the affected models.

According to the recall, "Consumers should immediately stop riding the recalled motorcycles and contact an authorized GASGAS Motorcycles or Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer to schedule a free inspection and free repair at the dealership. It is necessary to have the front brake caliper inspected by an authorized dealer to determine if it is defective or not defective. KTM/GASGAS and Husqvarna Mobility are contacting all known purchasers directly." No injuries have been reported, thankfully.

But, man, KTM just cannot catch a break lately. I'm starting to feel bad for them.
