T'PURAM: Kerala Students Union's (KSU) march on Wednesday, to protest against the attack on their leaders at the Government Law College in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, turned violent as they clashed with police.
KSU took out a march to the assembly seeking the arrest of SFI activists who attacked KSU leaders, including a woman leader. Police had put barricades to block the march at Martyr's Column. However, the activists tried to break these barricades and were engaged in heated arguments with the police.
During the march KSU activists destroyed all the flex boards of government and CPM. They tore away all flex boards carrying CM's pictures. Police used water cannons to disperse the activists. Students later started pelting stones at police and in turn police had to resort to a lathicharge to disperse the mob.
Youth Congress state president and MLA Shafi Parambil and KSU state president KM Abhijith reached the spot and pacified the activists. Later, police arrested the protesters and moved them away.
Three KSU workers and an SFI activist were injured in a skirmish that erupted after a verbal duel between the two student unions at Government Law College on Tuesday evening. KSU unit president Safna Yakub was attacked by SFI activists inside the campus. With her, unit general secretary Ashik Ashraf and another activist Nithin Thampi were injured and all three were admitted to medical college hospital. SFI activist Ananthu was also injured in the attack and he too is admitted at the medical college hospital. KSU activists also took out a march to the education minister's house and that also turned violent. TNN
