KSRelief Sends Aid to Syria’s Eastern Ghouta

KSRelief delivers aid to the residents of Syria's Eastern Ghouta. (SPA)

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) dispatched emergency aid to Syria’s Eastern Ghouta enclave, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Saturday.

The aid included distributing food baskets in the cities of Douma, Arbin, Hrasta and others.

The agency is operating kitchens in the affected areas. They will work for six months in order to provide 200,000 meals at an average of 2,000 meals a day. It will also distribute 5,633 food baskets to impoverished families and others in need.

The KSRelief aid campaign kicked off on Tuesday and the first kitchen was opened in Douma. Efforts are underway to operate another one in the city.

Relief has so far been limited to people staying in shelters because it could not be delivered to other areas due to the heavy regime shelling against civilians in Eastern Ghouta.

The latest aid is part of ongoing support Saudi Arabia is providing to the Syrian people under the orders of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to help them in their plight.

The Syrian regime, backed by Iran and Russia, has been carrying out intense air strikes since Sunday against Eastern Ghouta. Hundreds of people have been killed amid an international outcry and calls for a ceasefire to deliver much needed aid.

The enclave has been under a stifling regime siege since 2013.
