KSEB cuts off power supply to 10 tribal families

PALAKKAD: KSEB has disconnected the electricity supply to the houses of 10 tribal families, alleging that they have not paid the power bills for the last five years.

Now, these families are dependent on kerosene lamps. Students are also finding it difficult to study without electricity, said tribal chief Sivan Mooppan of Padalampadam .

He said that KSEB has slapped bills ranging from Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 on each family. He also said in an adalat held on December 23, 2016, by10 government departments, it was decided that the tribal families’ power bills will be paid by the tribal welfare department to KSEB and for the past five years no bills were given to the tribespeople.

But now suddenly they have asked us to pay the entire amount at one go, which is not possible due to the pandemic that has deprived tribespeople of employment and income, Mooppan said.
