
KHON KAEN: Kritanai Chantara swept both singles and doubles titles at the northeastern leg of the 2019 SCG Junior Championship at Chayatip gymnasium in Khon Kaen yesterday.
Defending champion and top seed Kritanai retained his under-17 boys' singles crown with a 22-20, 21-19 victory over second seed Pawut Areecharnkij in the final before teaming up with Pawut to beat second seeds Monthon Thanarungrak and Nopasit Checkchuntuk 21-16, 18-21, 21-17 in the doubles decider.
The tournament was the opening leg of this year's 1.5 million baht junior competition, co-sanctioned by SCG and the Badminton Association of Thailand.
In the girls' under-17 singles final, last year's runner-up and top seed Kanita Klanpairee powered past Nattamon Suktan 21-12, 21-15 to clinch her maiden title.
Elsewhere, in the girls' U15 singles final, Nawinda Baoruang beat Thanunpat Tipwipakul 21-8, 22-20 and Pupat Suyawaree defeated Norapat Srinamol 21-12, 21-8 in the boys' event.
In the girls' U13 singles finals, Nichapa Wechawong edged Krongkaew Suriyabut 19-21, 21-9, 21-11 and Suwarut Utsanont beat Paswat Bunont 19-21, 21-19, 21-14 for the boys' top honours.
The second leg will be held next weekend at HP Court in Chiang Rai.
