Kristoffer Ajer transfer latest as Milan boss gets cagey over Celtic raid prospects

Cagey Stefano Pioli refused to be drawn on AC Milan renewing their interest in Kristoffer Ajer.

The San Siro boss brushed off questions over a potential move for the Celtic star after his side's 4-2 victory against the Hoops.

Ajer has been named as a long-term target for the Rossoneri and reports from Italy last month claimed the clubs could discuss a potential swap deal involving Diego Laxalt.

It was speculated talks could even take place after Thursday night's Europa League clash.

Milan are in desperate need of centre-back reinforcements after failing to land one in the summer.

And their woes deepened against Celtic as Simon Kjaer hobbled off in the first half, leaving Alessio Romagnoli 21-year-old Matteo Gabbia as the only options in that position.

But Pioli was quick to assert the January market is none of his business.

He said: “I’m not in charge of that, I’m not in charge of the transfer window.

“We still have a lot of games to play before the end of December and then we will see then what will happen in January.”

Meanwhile, Celtic boss Neil Lennon has asked fans not to stage a repeat of last weekend's Parkhead protests this Sunday.

Lennon and his players were given a police escort away from Celtic Park as angry punters descended on the stadium after a disastrous Betfred Cup defeat to Ross County.

The angry scenes were roundly condemned by the club and now the under-fire manager insists it won't help his players turn things around.

He said ahead of the clash with St Johnstone: "Well, hopefully they will be celebrating a victory because that is what we will be trying to do. As we always do.

"I touched on what I thought of it on Sunday and if it is going to be reminiscent of Sunday, it is not what we need or what the players need at the minute."
