Celtic star Kristoffer Ajer’s impending move to Brentford killed former Rangers loanee Joe Worrall’s dream move to the Premier League.
The recently-promoted Bees are set to complete a £13.5mil deal plus add-ons for Ajer and the Norwegian has already completed his medical.
But it was Nottingham Forest’s Worrall that was originally Thomas Frank’s primary summer transfer target.
The Brentford boss was hugely impressed by the 24-year-old’s form last season as he enjoyed the best season of his career at the City ground.
Worrell made 33 appearances in total last season for the two-time European Cup Winners, scoring once as Forest finished 17th in the Championsip on 52 points - nine clear of relegation.
However, the London side turned their attentions to Ajer when it was made clear that he wanted to leave Celtic and was available for a reduced fee due to his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Brentford have signed Ajer for a lower price than Worrall’s valuation and Forest boss Chris Hughton says he expects him to stay this summer.
"I don’t think so,” Hughton said. “We’ve got some players who haven’t been involved who you know about. There are perhaps possibilities for them to move on.
“But at this moment, from this group here, no, I don’t think so.”
Worral enjoyed an indifferent spell at Rangers during the 2018/19 season when he made 32 appearances under the tutelage of Steven Gerrard.
