Kristoffer Ajer in Shane Duffy Celtic salute as defender makes 'wrong' Man of the Match admission

Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has saluted team-mate Shane Duffy for proving the doubters wrong after beating Kilmarnock.

The Brighton loanee tried to claim the first goal in the 2-0 win, although it appeared to come off Killie's Aaron McGowan last.

But there was no doubt who scored the second with the Irishman powering a header past Danny Rogers to double the Hoops' lead and ease the pressure on manager Neil Lennon.

Ajer was given the club's man of the match award but in a touch of humility he said he'd pass it on to Duffy for powering through a tough start to his Celtic career.

Ajer told Celtic TV: "Today, I think it's the wrong man of the match.

"Today, Duffer deserved it.

"He's been through a lot and the way he's been in the dressing room and the way he performed today, I'm so delighted for him.

"So today I will give it to him."

Ajer was deployed at right-back again with Duffy and Christopher Jullien in the heart of defence.

He revealed he's not used to the extra running but was just delighted to see his side rack up back-to-back wins for the first time since the start of October.

He said: "It was important for us to build on Thursday night's performance and I think we really did that.

"We defended well, they didn't create any chances. And offensively, I think we really looked dangerous, so it was a great team performance today.

"It's a lot of running, so it's something to get used to.

"But I think it was a good team performance."
