Kristoffer Ajer in emotional Celtic farewell as he names John Kennedy as 'most important' Parkhead figure

Outgoing Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has penned a tribute to Celtic fans and singled out John Kennedy for special praise.

The 23-year-old brought his five-year stint at Celtic Park as he sealed his £13.5million switch to Brentford on Wednesday.

Ajer joined Celtic from IK Start back in 2016 and grew into a key player for the Parkhead club throughout his time in Glasgow.

He leaves club having lifted three Premiership titles, three League Cups and three Scottish Cup trophies.

Earlier this summer he made it clear that he wanted to leave the club with 12 months left on his contract.

After being unveiled by the English Premier League new boys, the Norwegian has taken to Instragram to pen an emotional letter to supporters and those behind the scenes.

Ajer wrote: "5 years ago I travelled to Glasgow not knowing what to expect.

"The stories I got told seemed incredible, but the very first time I walked out at Celtic Park I truly understood how big a club Celtic really is.

"'Football without fans is nothing', and I want to thank every supporter that has contributed to making my time at Celtic so special.

"I also want to thank the managers that have developed me as a player, back room staff that has helped me through ups and downs, and also my teammates that have become great friends that will last a lifetime.

"A special mention also to John Kennedy, the most important person for me during my time at Celtic. Without him, we would never win the quadruple treble.

"I wish everyone that loves Celtic a successful future, I will always support the club."
