Kristoffer Ajer Celtic transfer claim as 'all clubs withdraw' from talks over bulked-up asking price

Wantaway Kristoffer Ajer will reportedly stay at Celtic this season despite pleading with the club to allow him to leave Parkhead.

The Norwegian defender has been widely expected to leave the Scottish Premiership this summer with just 12 months on his contract.

With the likes of Norwich, Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen tracking the star, Ajer admitted while away on international duty that he hoped to leave the club this summer.

However, reports in his homeland now claim he will remain and work under Ange Postecoglou.

TV2 report that nobody has met Celtic 's asking price for the highly-rated centre-back of around £20million.

They note that Brentford are the latest club to be turned away by the Hoops hierarchy having put a bid of around £10million in for the 23-year-old.

The Norwegian outlet claim that "all clubs have withdrawn from the negotiations" following the hefty price tag being placed on Ajer.

The defender stated earlier this summer that he expected to be allowed to leave in this window.

He said: “I was promised I could leave last summer, but we then agreed I would stay to try and help club win 10 in a row.

“That was important to the club, but unfortunately we didn’t succeed. Now I'm expecting the club to keep its word. There is not a set fee agreed, but I expect them to find a solution.

“This won't come as a surprise to the club, they know what I want. I think it is important for them to sell me to get funds in order to help with a rebuild of the club."
