Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has questioned whether Kristoffer Ajer is committed to Celtic after his performance against Rangers on Sunday.
The Norwegian defender was at the heart of the back line for their 4-1 defeat to Rangers that added insult to injury after a dismal Celtic season.
There was one instance in particular that drew the ire of fans as Ajer appeared to duck out of the way of Alfredo Morelos ' shot which ended up in Scott Bain 's net.
And McAvennie, who won the league with Celtic in 1988, says the defender has to do better.
He claims that Ajer's responsibility as a centre-half is to stand up to the ball and take it in the face if need be.
And he has questioned Ajer's previous comments that he has had one of his best individual seasons since joining Celtic.
“He’s been talking himself up saying this is his best-ever season," McAvennie told Football Insider.
“He’s let himself down because he’s got talent but he just doesn’t show it. He doesn’t want to head the ball.
“Just stand tall, put your body on the line to protect the goal. It was a comedy of errors.
“He ducked, turned his back on it. You can’t do that as a centre-half, you can’t do it anywhere to be honest with you.
“So what if the ball hits you in the goolies or the face? You’re a centre half.”
