Kristin Chenoweth Reunites with Stephen Schwartz in Musical Premiere

FILE - Kristin Chenoweth arrives at the AFI Awards Luncheon on Friday, March 11, 2022, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. Chenoweth will star as socialite Jacqueline “Jackie” Siege

Grammy and Tony Award-winning singer-actor Kristin Chenoweth is set to reunite with Stephen Schwartz, the composer of the hit musical 'Wicked,' in an exciting new stage show. The duo will collaborate on the live adaptation of the 2012 documentary film 'The Queen of Versailles,' which is scheduled to make its world premiere at Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston from July 16 to August 18.

In this intriguing production, Chenoweth will take on the role of socialite Jacqueline 'Jackie' Siegel. The musical will delve into the fascinating story of Jackie and her billionaire husband, David 'The Timeshare King' Siegel, as they attempted to build the largest private home in America in Orlando, Florida. Inspired by the opulence of the Palace of Versailles in France, they envisioned a remarkable $100 million house. However, their ambitious plans were crushed by the economic downturn of 2008, and tragedy later struck when they lost a teenage daughter to an overdose.

Exploring themes of fame, fortune, and family, the musical aims to shed light on the true costs associated with these aspects of life. The producers hope that the show's Boston try-out will pave the way for a future Broadway run. Tickets for the production will go on sale to the general public starting February 28.

Chenoweth, acclaimed for her role as Glinda in 'Wicked,' which earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical, has previously won a Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in 'You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.' Her return to the stage alongside Stephen Schwartz is highly anticipated by fans and theater aficionados alike.

Joining Chenoweth on stage will be Academy Award-winning actor F. Murray Abraham, who will portray David Siegel. The rest of the cast includes the talented Melody Butiu and Nina White. The story has been written by Lindsey Ferrentino, while direction is being handled by Tony Award-winner Michael Arden. Arden is no stranger to critical acclaim, having previously helmed the highly regarded Broadway revival of 'Parade.'

With such an impressive team behind it, 'The Queen of Versailles' promises to offer audiences a captivating and thought-provoking theatrical experience. Boston residents and visitors alike will have the opportunity to witness the world premiere before the show has the potential to make its mark on Broadway. So mark your calendars, as the enchanting tale of the Siegel family and their dreams of grandeur unfolds on stage this summer at Emerson Colonial Theatre.
