Kristin Cavallari filed for divorce from "unmotivated" Jay Cutler because it's reported his TV career seemed to falter.
The ambitious reality star, 33, was said to be "growing impatient" with her former NFL star husband, 37, after he chose to hang about with their children at their Tennessee farm in his retirement.
Sources said Kristin “views herself as very polished and put together, and Cutler as this lazy, unmotivated guy".
It's claimed the social climbing star was disappointed when the former Chicago Bears quarterback backed out of taking the "big job" at Fox Sports.
Instead Jay joined the Miami Dolphins but the job didn't pan out and he was left with no TV gig until the couple embarked on their own reality series Very Cavallari.
An insider added to Page Six : “She was growing increasingly impatient with him. He was supposed to take this big job at Fox Sports and have a life after football that would get him up off the couch and do something.
“Instead, he backed out — this is [three] years ago — and joined the [Miami] Dolphins. That didn’t pan out well, and he was left with no TV gig until she got the show for them.”
The Mirror have approached Kristin Cavallari's representative for comment.
They broke the hearts of their fans across the globe when the parents announced the end of their seven-year marriage in late April.
The exes have agreed to have joint custody of their children Camden, seven, Saylor, four, and Jaxon, five, as well as splitting their property portfolio.
The children will spend half of the year with each parent after Kristen and Jay agreed to be "joint primary residential parents", according to reports.
Kristin will use the marital funds to splash out on a new home following the demise of their seven-year marriage, according to documents obtained by PageSix.
The kids will stay with Jay at home until Kristin finds her feet in a new home.
Jay will have the kids every Friday on the fortnight until the following Friday after school.
Christmas will be divided up between the couple whereas the kids will spend every alternative Easter, Thanksgiving and school breaks with each parent.
Each week, the kids will ring the parent they aren't staying with twice at a "mutually convenient day and time", according to the report.
Kristin and Jay were married in a romantic ceremony in Nashville in June 2013.
