Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler got stuck in Bahamas lockdown before announcing divorce

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler have announced their decision to divorce, but their breakup has been far from conventional.

The reality TV stars flew to the Bahamas around March 15, just as the coronavirus pandemic started to get serious in the US.

Joining them on the holiday was their three children, Camden, seven, Jaxon, five, and Saylor, four, as well as Kristin’s hairstylist, Justin Anderson and his partner, Austin Rhodes.

The group managed to fly home to America at the beginning of April, and just days later Kristen, 33, and Jay, 36, announced their divorce.

But they very nearly got stuck in the Bahamas indefinitely as their marriage came to an end.

On March 20 the Bahamian government issued a lockdown order, including a curfew from 9am. to 5am, as well as a shutdown of local businesses, after there was four confirmed cases in the country.

Then on March 24 the government banned all incoming travel to the islands and urged all visitors still remaining to leave.

All the while the couple had been spamming their Instagram accounts with pictures of them on the beach, drinking during the day and playing games together.

But things got more serious on April 6 when it was announced there would be three multi-day full lockdown periods, beginning April 8 and ending April 24.

It was then that the U.S. embassy urged all Americans to leave, either on one of four commercial flights or on a private jet.

Kristen and her family finally left the following day, posting on Instagram to confirm they had taken advantage of a "short window" to leave and get home.

Less than three weeks later the couple announced their split on Instagram.

Kristen wrote: "With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce.

"We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of.

"This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family."

Mirror Online have contacted Kristen and Jay for comment.
