Kristen Stewart's Love Lies Bleeding Earns High Praise At Sundance

Love Lies Bleeding movie

The latest film from Kristen Stewart, Love Lies Bleeding, has been receiving early acclaim and has quickly become one of the actress' highest-rated films on Rotten Tomatoes, currently boasting a 90% score. Set in the 1980s, the movie follows Lou, played by Stewart, a gym manager who becomes romantically involved with bodybuilder Jackie, portrayed by Katy O'Brian, as she passes through town on her way to a competition in Las Vegas. Their love story takes a dark turn as they get entangled with Lou's criminal family.

Directed by Rose Glass and co-written with Weronika Tofilska, Love Lies Bleeding features a talented cast including Jena Malone, Anna Baryshnikov, and Dave Franco alongside Stewart and O'Brian. This marks Stewart's third film to achieve a rating above 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, joining Clouds of Sils Maria (91%) and Certain Women (92%).

Critics have been praising Stewart's performance as Lou, with many highlighting her portrayal as a standout in the film. The movie has been commended for its cast overall, with special mention given to Stewart and O'Brian for their compelling performances.

Director Rose Glass, known for her work on the acclaimed horror film Saint Maud, brings her unique vision to Love Lies Bleeding. Glass has drawn parallels between the characters in both films, emphasizing themes of transformation and obsession.

Love Lies Bleeding premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is set to hit theaters on March 8. Stewart's upcoming projects include the comedy Sacramento, the thriller Rosebushpruning, and her feature directorial debut with an adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir The Chronology of Water.
