Kristen Stewart felt 'huge responsibility' to define her sexuality

Kristen Stewart has revealed she felt “a huge responsibility” to pick “a side” when it came to her sexuality.

In a recent interview, the Twilight actor talked about coming out on Saturday Night Live in 2017, when she said: “I’m, like, so gay dude!”

Speaking to Associated Press this week, Stewart said: “I felt this huge responsibility, one that I was really genuinely worried about, if I wasn’t able to say one way or the other, then was I sort of like forsaking a side.”

The 29-year-old also said she was glad young people increasingly felt they did not have to label their sexualities.

“If you were to have this conversation with someone in high school, they’d probably roll their eyes and go, ‘Why are you complicating everything so much?’ ... Just sort of do what you want to do,’” she said. “It’s really nice.”

She said she would harness this perspective in her upcoming directorial debut The Chronology of Water, a film about a bisexual swimmer-turned-artist Lidia Yuknavitch.

“So much of that spirit is completely about finding a new language. And really understanding that your word house, so to speak, is constructed by you,” she said.

“And you can also have a million definitions of any word you want. They are open for interpretation.”

Stewart has previously said she believes sexuality to be “fluid” and “grey”.

She originally came out after Donald Trump weighed in on her relationship with former Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, tweeting that the actor “should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again.”

In response, Stewart said: ”Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re really probably not going to like me now, ’cause I’m hosting SNL and I’m like, so gay dude.”

She later clarified that she identified as bisexual.

Since ending her relationship with Pattinson, Stewart has been romantically linked to Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, visual effects producer Alicia Cargile and model Stella Maxwell.
