Krispy Kreme reopens Avonmeads branch

Fans of Krispy Kreme can rejoice - the popular doughnut chain has started a phased reopening.

Nine drive-thru branches will reopen today (May 12), with a further seven shops offering takeaway.

Avonmeads, in St Philips, has been picked as one of the first stores to return and a Krispy Kreme delivery service will also be available.

The stores opening as part of the first phase are:

  • Bath
  • Bristol
  • Braehead (drive thru only)
  • Brighton
  • Edinburgh (drive thru only)
  • Enfield
  • Gateshead
  • Leeds
  • Thorpe Park Leeds
  • Liverpool
  • Manchester
  • Peterborough
  • Shannon Corner
  • Slough
  • Windsor
  • Watford Trade City

Customers in other areas close to the reopened stores above can also order deliveries through Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats, reports Manchester Evening News.

NHS workers, police and firefighters can enjoy 50% off the entire menu until the end of May.

There will be a limit on the number of customers allowed in stores at the same time to help with social distancing measures.

Screens have also been put in place to protect staff and customers, and the company says PPE is being provided for employees 'as required'.

A smaller number of staff will work at the branches, with hand-washing every 20 minutes and sanitising stations in store.

Pre-packed offerings will be increased to keep contact to a minimum and customers are being urged to order online in advance if they can - though people will be able to call in and pay on the day.

Richard Cheshire, CEO of Krispy Kreme UK and Ireland, said: "In the past few weeks, we have been busy planning how we can adopt a phased approach to carefully and responsibly continuing to serve our customers in the UK.

"From Tuesday 12th May, in addition to providing delivery, we are now opening 9 of our drive thrus for customers and a further 7 shops for customers either as pre ordered click and collect or walk in to take away.

"Our priority is always to protect our staff and customers, and we have in place a number of new health, safety and social distancing measures which align with all the government guidance.

"We are grateful to our dedicated Krispy Kreme colleagues, who volunteered to return to work, and have received training on these new measures."

Krispy Kreme's doughnut cabinets are also back in 450 supermarkets across the UK for customers who don't live near one of the reopened branches.

'More updates' on the phased reopening are expected in the coming weeks.
