Krispy Kreme doughnuts reopens UK factory

Krispy Kreme is reopening its UK factory to start manufacturing doughnuts again.

The company will turn out half a million doughnuts on its production line in Watford.,

The treats will be delivered to essential workers at hospitals and police stations as well as to carers and other local heroes.

Krispy Kreme closed its manufacturing sites two weeks ago.

The brand has now introduced social distancing at every step of manufacturing, appointing Covid-19 officers to oversee the process and implementing a contactless delivery process.

The company’s factory line in Watford is set to reopen this week, but staff including the Krispy Kreme CEO have already delivered thousands of Original Glazed doughnuts across London and the north to south eastern counties. This will now extend to become nationwide.

Richard Cheshire, Krispy Kreme CEO, said: "Our mission to create smiles and bring joy has never been more important.

"We know we aren’t saving lives, but we hope to do something as small and simple as making someone smile.

"It’s our way of saying thank you to people far and wide who are working so hard to keep our nation moving, safe and well at the moment."

The much-loved doughnut brand is also planning to recruit people who are keen to support others delivering doughnuts to heroes in their local area.

The volunteers will be chosen from its active head office and operations staff, but Krispy Kreme is also inviting the general public to support the cause from their own home by nominating local unsung heroes who will receive a thank you in doughnut form.

To nominate a local hero, contact servingsmiles@krispykreme.co.uk or find a link via the brand's social media pages.
