Kris Jenner’s Serene Bedroom Color Scheme Could be Your Secret to Better Sleep, Experts Say –and I Completely Agree

Bedrooms are profoundly personal spaces. Decorating a bedroom for someone else is always a delicate design task – especially if the person in question is a powerhouse like business mogul Kris Jenner. Despite building an empire under the harsh glare of reality TV, Kris Jenner's personal bedroom was conceived as a haven of peace and tranquility.

In an interview with Architectural Digest, Jenner outlined her vision for a relaxing bedroom retreat, a conscious counterpoint to the hustle of Los Angeles life, to her designers, Waldo Fernandez and the mother-and-son team of Kathleen and Tommy Clements from Clements Design.

Kathleen Clements recalls the initial surprise: 'She said that it’s not necessarily in her nature, but that she’d trust us completely to do what we think is right,' Kathleen told AD. The result is an oasis that perfectly embodies the quiet luxury trend and, most importantly, is meticulously designed for sleeping better and well-being.

The key to replicating this atmosphere and creating an ideal environment for sleep lies in the bedroom color scheme. The consensus among design experts is that a carefully chosen neutral palette is essential for tranquility. ‘For a calm and restful bedroom scheme, introduce colors with a neutral undertone and tie these together so that everything blends together and nothing glares,’ advises Nicky Mudie, founder and director of Violet & George.

Interior designer Deborah Bass of Base Interior stresses the careful execution of this neutral trend, which will continue to define sophisticated spaces: ‘Using a neutral tone, such as the one Kris Jenner has in her bedroom, while avoiding a minimal or stark atmosphere is a delicate balancing act between the natural light, artificial lighting and the other textures and tones used throughout. Sampling on site, in various lights including artificial lighting, and at different times of day cannot be underestimated.’

As we move into the darker days of fall and winter, it's crucial to align your decor choices with your natural rhythms. Farrow & Ball’s color curator Joa Studholme believes that bedrooms should be decorated according to the occupant's disposition: ‘If you are a morning person who likes to jump out of bed and attack the day, then you are probably more suited to having a clean, light, uplifting color on the walls. Evening people will more likely embrace the dark, womb-like shades. For a bedroom used purely for sleeping, serene colors, similar to Kris Jenner's, will induce a good night’s rest and a sense of calm.’

A crucial element to a deeply restful bedroom environment, particularly as we embrace the cozy feel of the season, is the often-overlooked ceiling, or the 'fifth wall.'

‘For the ultimate in calm, use the same color, or even a slightly darker tone on the ceiling as the walls, thus increasing the perceived room height,’ says Studholme. ‘This may sound alarming, but the result is a wonderfully cocoon-like space.’

By embracing a sophisticated, sleep-focused neutral bedroom and extending that calm up to the ceiling, you can transform your bedroom into a genuinely restorative retreat for fall and winter.
