A heated confrontation between Kanye “Ye” West and Kris Jenner is a major flashpoint in the new documentary In Whose Name?, sparking big conversations about family, mental health, and responsibility.
The film by Nico Ballesteros opened in US cinemas on September 19 and followed Ye through a turbulent period of his life, including moments of conflict with the Kardashian family.
The film opens with footage from 2018 showing Ye, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, in a tense exchange with Kris in her kitchen, which has quickly gone viral on social media.
Wearing a MAGA hat shortly after visiting Donald Trump at the White House, Ye tells Kris, “I would rather be dead than to be on medication.”

He accuses the Kardashian-Jenner family of not acknowledging his hospital stay, saying, “No one from the family has taken any responsibility for my hospital visit… That’s 50 per cent of what people say at least. Am I lying?”
Kris tries to explain, “It doesn’t matter,” but Ye pushes back, yelling, “It does matter! It does matter!”.
Her boyfriend at the time, Corey Gamble, is present during the argument but does not intervene.
Kris responds, “I haven’t finished the sentence. It matters to us and you. It doesn’t matter what the internet says. It matters what we think, Ye.”
After Ye storms out and returns, he asks directly, “So, what do you think? Did you have an effect on my mental health?”
Kris admits, “Yes. I’m saying yes. And I love you. I don’t want you to be not perfect. I love you, and I want my daughter to love you the way you want her to love you.”
No member of the Kar-Jenner family have commented on the video at the time of writing.

In Whose Name? was filmed over six years and clocked in at nearly two hours, offering close access to Ye’s everyday life and creative process during some of his most turbulent years. Director Ballesteros, who began filming at age 18, reportedly amassed over 3,000 hours of raw footage — shot primarily on iPhones — as Ye navigated marriage breakdowns, mental health struggles and controversy.
The film chronicles Ye’s journey through his support for Donald Trump, controversial public comments, and antisemitic rants that saw him split with major brands like Adidas. It moves between highly public incidents (like the MAGA era and infamous 2022 antisimetic remarks) to private moments with family and friends.
Alongside Kris Jenner, the film dives deep into the fraught period when Ye’s marriage to Kim Kardashian was unravelling. In scenes previewed in earlier trailers, Kim speaks through tears: “Your personality was not like this a few years ago.”
When she tries to deescalate a conversation, Ye snaps back: “It ain’t no ‘but.’”
The documentary also includes cameos and archival footage featuring celebrities like Lady Gaga, Drake, LeBron James, Rihanna, and Justin Bieber.
