Kris Commons highlights striking Celtic and Scotland parallel as he makes Brendan Rodgers comparison

Kris Commons believes Steve Clarke has captured the hearts of a disillusioned fanbase much like Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

The former Hoops star insists Hampden, if permitted, will be packed to the rafters come next summer's Euro 2020 showpiece.

He's drawn a parallel with how Rodgers lifted the apathy which hung over Celtic Park towards the end of Ronny Deila's tenure.

Sections of the stadium were closed until Rodgers rejuvenated the side and brought supporters back in droves.

And Commons reckons Clarke's influence on the national team will prove just as transformational.

He told the Daily Mail : "When the time comes for supporters to return to games, you can guarantee that Hampden will be sold-out as we move towards next summer's European Championships.

"Clarke hasn't just lifted the sense of apathy. He has shattered it and the entire nation is dancing on the pieces to the sound of a cheesy pop tune by Baccara. It's a bizarre but brilliant story.

"Once that sense of apathy and indifference sets in, it can be really hard to shift it and get the fans back onside. Trust me, it's easier said than done.

"I can relate to that from my time at Celtic. During the Ronny Deila days, the top tier of Celtic Park was quite often closed for European games.

"You try and block it out as much as you can as a player when you're on the pitch. But it still doesn't look great when you've got large swathes of empty seats.

"That was one of the first things Brendan Rodgers identified when he took charge. He knew he had to get the supporters believing in the team once again.

"Clarke knows the value of making your home stadium a fortress. That was one of the first things he knew he had to fix when he took over at Kilmarnock."
